Facebook contest has been playing a big rule to increase the fans base, and when the fans increase the sales and traffic will also increase. What is more, facebook contest help us to have more interaction between pages and fans then of course more engagement. Facebook contest are really important for anyone who is serious about marketing on facebook.

The whole point of the contest, is to whip up a frenzy of activity and excitement around your brand and eventually make some sales. You can ask your fans to opt-in their email address to enter the contest which going to be great way to build your email list too ( third party apps will help you with this).

The first step to running a successful contest on Facebook is to make sure that your contest stay on Facebook, by following the rules. You see, Facebook has set out some very concrete guidelines where contests are concerned, and it has no compunction and every right to pull both your contest and your page down if they feel you’ve violated those guidelines.

Click on the link below to read the guidelines:

The biggest rule of all is that any contest you run on Facebook has to be run through a third party app.

You can create your own app or you can use a third party app called Wildfire ( started with 5$ and 0.99$ a day ) or Easypromos ( Free to 5000 fans).

The prize that you offer should be something that’s valuable to your target demographic or related to your products or services. I personally think that offering one of your actual products or services as the contest prize can be a good idea. If you don’t have a product then buy something that can be valuable to your fans.

(*my best) Making Fans To Invite Their Friends

There is no limitation on the number of fans users can invite to a page, which makes the inviting process as one of the best ways to increase the number of your page fans. But how to make your fans to invite their friends? Running a contests is the answer icon smile How to host a facebook contest that generate fans, sales and traffic Contests are somehow the single best tool for driving more users to your public pro?le if you encourage fans to invite their friends.

While you will receive an initial surge in fans from inviting their friends and targetingg network in?uencers, the growth will eventually started.

Play Games

If you seriously want your fans to interact with you, you should play games with them. You don’t need to develop or install an application for this, Games here isn’t a contest. In addition, you only should be able to come up with plenty of games and determine the best incentives. Here is two Games I’ve noticed some pages playing it with their fans.

1. Facebook Scavenger Hunt This is probably one of the easiest competitions to set up. come up with 10 or 20 clues about random items hidden around Facebook or your website. Get people to go and search for this items and then post a link for them. The quickest to complete the scavenger hunt wins. Keep in mind that this can get extremely challenging to handle once you have a large number of fans.

2. Top Score In Facebook Games As you know people are always looking for good ways to waste there time which presents a great opportunity. Browse through some of the most addictive games on Facebook and once you’ve found one, challenge your fans to beat your high score and post them. Easy game to play with your fans but can generate a large response.

Think about a related contest

Actually you can create a new contest idea that related to your page by your self. For example, if your page is about photography you can create a contest that asks your fans to upload their best photo they took to win the newest Canon Camera icon biggrin How to host a facebook contest that generate fans, sales and traffic . Think about a contest that somehow can be related to your audience.

minilogoforposts How to host a facebook contest that generate fans, sales and traffic Frequently Asked Questions

“Do I need to use an app if I’m just talking about or advertising a contest that I’m running elsewhere?”

If you’re running a contest on your website, blog, in real life, or anywhere else apart from Facebook, you don’t need to use a 3rd party app if all you do is talk about/advertise said contest. You can’t ask people to do anything on your Facebook page.

“Can I ask people to like my page, upload a photo, or post on my page’s wall as a condition of entering my contest?”

Yes and no. You can force visitors to like your page before having a chance to enter the contest, but you can’t require fans to post anything or submit anything through Facebook as a prerequisite to entering the contest. (That’s where the 3rd party app comes in, because you can ask them to submit things there!)

I saw that nowadays it’s trending the idea of quizes. In order to be able to take a quiz, you must “like” the page of that company that has this quiz. Example: facebook page of XYZ company, if you want to take a quiz made by XYZ (at what age are you going to die? or something random, it doesn’t really matter, it’s important though to be attractive) – so, as I was saying, if you want to take that quiz you must ‘like’ the page of XYZ company. More fans -> more brand-awareness -> more sales. Simple as that! Thanks for sharing!

yep! same goes with contest :D In order to make people participate it is good to ask for a ” LIKE” + email address. Which can lead for more future engaging.

Thanks for the comment Joshua, you are always adding a great comment to my posts which makes my post better :D

Thanks a lot ;)

Contest are a great way to pull more interaction. I see you believe giving away one of your products, or at least something good value to encourage participation. What about having to share the page before they can enter, not just “like” it. Do you think it will be too much of a turn off to go that route?

WOW! This is good idea Shannon :D thats also can be done and will get us more benefits.

but I think it is too much to request ;) I guess requesting a like + an email is so enough.

Thanks for your nice comment.

I’ve never been focusing much on Facebook Marketing, until I took up the course by Amy Porterfield. This has changed my focus towards marketing using social networks. I will try your tips here on my 1000 plus fan page.

How did you get so smart with all things Facebook Faissal?

I love this idea and I agree with Eddie. I took Amy’s course so that when I did create my fan page I would do things right with this one. I see so many that are SO boring that I don’t even want to bother liking them. I’m sorry, that’s so bad of me to say.

I’ll have to start implementing a lot of what you’ve shared but I have to get it up first. Hopefully before the weekend is up so stay tuned.

Perhaps this is being technical, but is there any legal issues with the difference between calling something a contest and a sweepstakes?

Reply

Faissal Alhaithami

In a contest, the winner is chosen based on some sort of qualification, be it a skill (“the best illustration wins”) or some sort of merit (“the person we deem to be most deserving”).

In a sweepstakes, the winner is chosen completely at random, without any sort of qualification or decision structure.

hope this answer help.

Establishing a contest certainly creates an exciting feeling, the thrill is within it most especially when announce in a renowned website. Since millions of people are active in facebook and thousands of them are online in every single minute then this idea would be easily admired. I think games combined with socialization are one that catches major attention for online users of facebook.

Holding a contest will surely attract people to your site but you have to find ways to promote your contest. Maybe you can use Twitter to announce it.

There is a problem with having people compete for the top score in most Facebook games, and that is how easy it is for a technically minded person to cheat. If you know what you’re doing it is very easy to use a cheating application to trick those games into awarding you a near infinite score with little to no effort. Competitions need to be fair, and using Facebook games never will be.

Running a Facebook content is probably the single-most effective way to generate interest in your product/Facebook page. I had a friend who started a page, not for a business but just a product he was a fan of. We contacted the company that manufactured the product and asked if we could have some cheap merchandise to give away via our Facebook page, just for fun. They sent us 8 baseball caps which was great of them. What was really staggering though was, across the period in which we ran the 4 giveaways/contents (we gave 2 hats away per week,) we gathered near 6,000 new ‘members’ to our page. It just goes to show that when it comes to free stuff, no matter what it is, people want to get involved! :P

I’ve tried to do several contest on Facebook. I must be doing things really wrong because nothing I do on that site works for me. I have 950 fans but can’t ever get more than 5 people at a time to comment on my posts. I tell jokes, I ask for pictures of DIY auto detailing. Nothing. I will continue to search this site for answers. Thanks!
