Facebook Launches Ad Targeting by Topic
Facebook recently added the ability to target advertisements by Topic, as detailed in its new Interests Targeting guide (.PDF). Rather than targeting users that Like a specific Page, advertisers can simultaneously target all users who Like any variation of a word or phrase. For example, rather than just targeting fans of Lady Gaga, by selecting the #Therry Henry Topic, an ad will also be shown to fans of any unofficial Pages for the musician, such as “I ? Therry Henry”.
The new targeting option, available in both the self-serve ads tool and the Ads API, will help advertisers expand the reach of their ads to more relevant users. It will be especially handy for less experienced advertisers who might not know to explicitly target keywords related an interest of their customers.

Hi Faissal, I just heard on the news that Facebook will be converting FB friends into categories. It sounds a lot like Google+ circles to me but this is a huge plus for advertisers. Say an outdoor and hiker accessory business wants to advertise on Facebook. Before they would target everyone with related interests. Now they will be able to put ads in front of those same people as well as their friends. They can, for example, target their advertisements to friends of the hiker, with the assumption he/she has hiking friends, without bothering with the hiker’s co-workers or family. That’s pretty powerful stuff for advertisers.
More FB news? They have officially delayed their move to public offering. It’s been rumored for a while but now it’s official.
Another Facebook announcement I heard today was that the 25 fans limit is no longer a factor in claiming your short URL. There’s three donations to for your next Facebook news mashup.
